Why We Dance (2022)

In collaboration with:

Martha Pazienti
Maria Ndjoku

Why We Dance (2022) is an audiovisual piece that focuses on womxn and non-binary people’s representation
in electronic music. Inspired by music, sound, and the electronic music scene, I have noticed that there is still inequality when it comes to seeing women performing.

With intersecting narratives and conceptual frameworks, this video explores the current issues through a conversation with the DJ Martha Pazienti, where she gives her perspective and what she also enjoys about being a DJ. This video also explores the rhythm, movement, and sound caused by electronic music. Collaborating with the dancer Maria Ndjoku Obama, this video ended up giving a dynamic experience due to the different layers of different rhythms of the chosen soundtrack, where the dancer is doing multiple polyrhythms at the same time.
